The Pedalers Crew

Founded as My Urban Farm by Chris Thoreau in 2009, The Food Pedalers incorporated as a Worker Cooperative in early 2013 with the addition of Lucy Brain and Dan Pinto as fellow owner-members. The Food Pedalers are excited about their fifth season as Vancouver's premier microgreens specialists!

Chris Thoreau has been engaged in urban food production since 2001 as a farmer, educator, community organizer, and advocate.Since 2008 Chris has been based in Vancouver, BC where he attended the University of British Columbia's Agroecology program. He received his BSc. (Hons) in 2011 after focusing his studies on urban farming, soil management, and small-scale plant breeding.Prior to his time in Vancouver Chris operated a certified organic farm in Victoria, BC for six years. While in Victoria he also served on the local certifying body's (Islands Organic Producers Association) Board of Directors and Certification Committee for two years.  When he isn't obsessing over seeds, soil, and harvests Chris spends most of his time with his four-year-old son doing everything from soccer to skating, running to wall climbing, and reading to wrestling!

Dan Pinto is a systems engineer gone bad. He decided to come to Vancouver from Mexico in 2012 and make a career change - he never looked back! Dan joined the Food Pedalers crew in 2012 and helped with the development of the Rules of the cooperative as the Food Pedalers prepared to incorporate. He is currently studying horticulture at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. This is his first experience working as a farmer but most likely won't be his last. When he's not pedaling sprouts around time he spends time snowboarding, playing tennis and volleyball, and quality time with is wife, Evlyn.

Lucy Brain also joined the Food Pedalers crew in 2012. Lucy's previous life was in post-production but the state of the world's affairs caused her to make some big career changes A long-time gardener, she left post-production work and is now studying sustainable agriculture at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. At the time of this writing Lucy is in Cuba trapping Spodoptera exigua in onion fields and comparing the effects of vermicompost leachate made from different manures. Rough life! When she's not putting up with Dan and Chris Lucy sings in local band Young and Sexy. Seriously.
